Day 56 of my full-time mission
Area: Afton, Wyoming
Well, guess what?! Today was transfer day. They told us to hang around our apartments until 10:30 a.m., and we did, and there was no phone call. So, we said, “all right, another month!” I really do enjoy it here. I had finished personal study and was ironing all my shirts that I cleaned yesterday and the phone rant. I picked it up and said, “LDS missionaries, Elder Codella speaking.” “Hi, Elder Codella, this is Elder Knighton. Could I speak with Elder Galin?” I told Gatlin, “You’re out of here, bud.” But, the president talked with him to tell him he was getting a new companion, and then talked with me to tell me I was being transferred to Laygon. What a shock! That was my Missionary Training Center district. Neat, huh? He told me that I would be a junior companion to Elder Barnson and that he was a really hard worker and that I’d like that.
This is good and bad news. I had just wrote in my last letter to President Shumway that Elder Gatlin and I had become pretty good friends. But, perhaps I’ve learned all I can from Elder Gatlin. I need to be patient and look on the heart. I also need to recognize the different types of upbringings we have each had — that makes us different.
I hope that President Shumway isn’t just moving me because I couldn’t handle things here, because I don’t feel like that. Actually, if I had really listened to my Heavenly Father, I do recall having a really peaceful feeling about what I’ve accomplished here and feel like I did a good job. I got the area records organized anyway.
Well, I’ve got to go say goodbye to a few other people. Then, Gatlin and I may go out to Pizza Hut for dinner. It’s our farewell party.
We just got back from the Brennings, again. They sure are neat people. They told me I’d always have a place to stay if I came to Afton. We rode four-wheelers for a while. It was my first time to ride one. It was so much fun. I just had a blast. The only problem was that I got a major allergy attack. I mean major. I couldn’t hardly see. My eyes ere completely swollen and red. It hurt like crazy to blink. But the fun was roth it. We had dinner there too. It was terrific to be there and have fun. I took some benedryl at their house and it’s pretty much made me oblivious, so I need some sleep.
Man, I london’t believe I’m leaving. I was having so much fun in this area with the members. I guess that’s why I’m going, to get to teach some investigators.
Well, it’s off to a new adventure!
My Scripture: D&C 1:29-20 — …the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased…
