Happy Anniversary to my sweetheart

Pete and Vickey Codella wedding photoThis week marks our thirteenth wedding anniversary. It’s amazing how fast time flies.

Vickey and I started dating when we were 28 and 31. Yes, I’m a few years younger than her. Although we had several friends in common at BYU we didn’t meet until a few years after we both graduated. I had spent a few years in New York and moved into her LDS single’s ward in Orem, Utah when I accepted a job at BYU’s Performing Arts Management office – where we booked the BYU performing ensembles on tours around the world. She was teaching at a junior high school in Lindon.

We started dating the summer after I moved back to Utah, got engaged that November and married the next June. What fun times! Isn’t courtship wonderful?

This year, for our anniversary, I wanted to do something special and different. I flirted with purchasing some extravagant gift but ultimately decided on writing her a song. Maybe that’s cheesy but I figured it would at least preserve my feelings at this juncture and always be something she can have from me. Rather than a slow sentimental ballad, I opted for an upbeat anthem.

I have to give a big shout-out to my music meastro friend, Tyler, for all his help. He took my original lyrics and guided me to the collaborative results you’ll see and hear below. He also did the instrumental tracks and produced the single. A true, amazing friend!

So, for the love of my life – the woman I’m honored to be married to. Here’s my anniversary gift, a love song for you.

Love That Can Last

Do you remember our first kiss?
That’s when I knew.
I only dreamed I’d end up with
Someone like you.

You were the right one I was waiting for.
I don’t know how I ever lived before.

I can’t imagine my life without you.
Now that you’re here with me.
I searched forever for this kind of love.
Sometimes it seems like a lifetime.
Sometimes it feels like it’s just a dream.
I would give everything for what we have.
A love that can last.
A love that can last.

So many memories through the years.
The joy we’ve found.
And somehow we made it through the tears.
We’ve held our ground.

A million miles could never keep us apart.
You know you’ll always have the key to my heart.

the chorus repeats here twice

I will give everything for what we have.
A love that will last.
A love that will last.
