Since I failed to take Dominic to the doctor for his 18 month check-up, I decided I better not miss his two year-old visit to the doctor. It was your typical visit. We arrived on time and left nearly two and a half hours later. It wasn’t all that unpleasant, but took a huge chunk out of my day.
Since the Dominator is rather cranky on shot days, I hadn’t planned much of anything for the rest of the day anyway. He got three shots. He was OK with the first one, but the second one got him. He started crying big crocodile tears and looking up at me saying “OWIE”.
I hate watching my kids get shots (the nurse made it even worse by having me hold down their arms while she administered the shots).
Ellie got her chicken pox vaccine booster, so she only needed one shot today. She took it in stride and played the day away. When Pete told her it was time for her to take a bath, however, she couldn’t move all of the sudden-because of the shot. She limped all the way to the bath tub to prove that she was in far too much pain to make it up the stairs quickly.
Both kids measured up in the 25-50% for their hieght and weight. The doc said that they will probably be late bloomers since that runs in my family, and both Pete and I are pretty tall. I didn’t tell him Pete was more of an early bloomer. Only time will tell, I suppose.
One thing that seemed to be of concern is that Dominic’s head circumference is in the 90th percentile. Dr. Hodapp seemed a little concerned about that since the last time we were there he was only in the 75th percentile. He asked if Pete had a big head. When I answered affirimitively (sorry hon) he said ‘We will blame it on him then’. He didn’t seem overly concerned, so I guess we will see how Dominic’s head measures up in 6 months.
Dominic is hitting all his developmental milestones, and Dr. Hodapp said that is a good indicator that we shouldn’t need to worry about the large measurement.
Sure, tell the doctor I have a big head. Whatever!
