There’s a small artsy, fartsy town in central Utah called Helper. That’s where Vickey’s becoming famous artist brother, Charley, lives. It’s chic and hip if you’re into the whole art thing. Charley bought a home in downtown Helper (I don’t even think there are two stoplights there) a few years ago and has been making […]

It’s the most wonderful mountain range … I’ve ever seen
0I’ve seen my share of scenery: most U.S. states, four other continents and probably hundreds of tourist’s stops along the way. But I’ve never been as impressed with the sheer size and beauty of a mountain range as I was on our trip. We drove through the mountains from Strawberry Reservoir south to American Fork […]
A quick visit to Brian and Melissa’s
0On Thursday, Aug. 16 we made the 150 minute (thank you Utah-construction-everywhere) drive from the cabin to Brian and Melissa’s in South Jordan to let the cousins play for a day. They had a great time. Carter had recently managed to catch this wild and not-so-ferocious lizard and create a home for him. Lizardee, as […]
A visit to Strawberry Reservoir
0We also paid a visit to Strawberry Reservoir. It was one of those summer afternoons when thunderclouds were overhead but no rain was falling. It was actually quite beautiful. The kids took a few minutes to throw rocks into the lake. Some of the folks at the lake were collecting crawdads, and they were big […]
Logging at the cabin
0Here are some photos from the day we decided at noon to go out to the place where the loggers left their remains and gather a few logs to line Gordon’s driveway. It was a hot afternoon but we managed without too much trouble to round up three two-foot logs and one long 25 foot […]
It ant necessarily so
0One afternoon at the cabin Eliana and Dominic borrowed spoons from the kitchen to round up a few unsuspecting subjects for their ant collection. Here they are collecting. Little did Ellie know that her collection, housed in a used water bottle, would later be filled by Grandpa with drinking water (he didn’t see the ants […]
More fun at the cabin
0Other activities at the cabin included playing with Dominic’s train he received for his second birthday. And shucking corn. And dancing. This is Dominic’s famous ‘the point’ move. Grandpa made a new screen door handle for the kiddies, just their size. The kids did some finger painting as well.
Package from South Africa
0While we were at the cabin we opened a package Aunt Rachel sent with presents from her trip to South Africa. There were the coolest tin models included. I guess these things are hand crafted from tin cans. Very cool. And Eliana received a handmade bracelet as well. Thanks, Aunt Rachel!
Summer cabin fever
0For our family vacation this year we choose a week at the Snow family cabin at Bryant’s Fork near Strawberry Reservoir, about 30 miles southeast of Heber. It’s a spot near and dear to Grandpa Snow as his father and he used to hang out together in that neck of the woods. Our activities included: […]
A visit to New Harmony
0On the 10th, and on our way north for our end of the summer family getaway, we stopped at Grandma and Grandpa Codella’s new homestead in New Harmony. It’s off a dirt road, up in the southwestern hills of New Harmony. Grandpa had to guide us there while we were on the mobile phone. Here’s […]
